A Friday Night Out With Pals From College At A Local Bar Leads To Drinking Issues And An Alcohol Overdose

When Lois was in high school, she had established a reputation as a person who studied a lot and who rarely, if ever, had fun drinking with her classmates. She seemed nearly obsessed about "shining" academically so that she would be able to find a career that she not only got pleasure from but one that also gave her some security from a financial position.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a greatly admired program in economics. Her rationale for this decision was that this subject area would be good training for law school and would not be comparable to the bulk of law school applicants who choose political science as their undergraduate major or minor.

Lois was the type of individual who worked relentlessly to finish what she started and then would take a breather when she could. It just so happens, nonetheless, that a good number of the things she did between school sessions or during summer breaks did not have much of anything to do with drinking. It almost goes without saying that Lois was anything but a party-person. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were finished and feeling overjoyed that she had done extremely well on her tests, nonetheless, she wanted to take a respite from school and have some fun.

So Lois and a number of her pals went to a local club where they had a few shots. As the evening went by, Lois and her pals continued to drink. In truth, she was having such a magnificent time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

After drinking about forty minutes when Lois began to talk in a confused manner, slur her speech, and then become unconscious, in spite of this, her pals instantly knew that they needed to call that they needed to call the emergency number and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Lois was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was very aware that she came an inch from losing her life from an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was gratified to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat dejected knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her Mom and Dad knew how intensely she worked at college and how little she let herself experience a social life. Nevertheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to steer clear of abusive and careless drinking.

As a result, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking circumstance arises, that she always drink responsibly. Lois was fine with this and gave her word to her friends and to her Mom and Dad that she would never again drink in an abusive and hazardous manner. In her own words, "I never pondered the fact that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local university newspaper. I now realize that excessive and hazardous drinking is not the best for me. I proclaim that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also displayed a lot of. That is, she rapidly knew that she had made a mistake and decided that she would never make the same mistake again. As a matter of fact, she now knew that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this type of excessive and hazardous drinking can result in a fatality.
