A Moody High School Student Manifests Quite A Few Alcohol-Related Problems, Gets Thrown Out Of School, And Has To See The School Psychologist

Stephen was a eighteen year old high school senior who was displaying numerous alcohol-related issues at school. Therefore, the principal informed him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist, before he would be permitted to come back to class.

Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to go over his school situation with his Mother and Father. His Mother and Father were "fairly conventional" and explained to Stephen that getting thrown out of school was not an acceptable educational plan of action. They told Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would most probably be like a lead weight around his ankles that could conceivably inhibit his educational aspirations for the remainder of his adult life. Furthermore, Stephen's parents were extremely saddened that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his buddies in the second.

It was evident that his Mom and Dad were absolutely in accord with Stephen's principal and informed Stephen that he had better come to the understanding that he needs to see Miss Pender, the school therapist. After his talk with his Mother and Father, Stephen at last agreed to see Miss Pender the next school day. So Stephen phoned the school and made an appointment to see Miss Pender the next day during his sixth period class.

When Stephen got to his scheduled appointment with Miss Pender, she at once looked at all of the alcohol-related difficulties Stephen had gotten into and asked him if he comprehended why his recent alcohol-related activities signaled such alarm.

Quite sincerely, Stephen wondered why the principal explained to him that he had to see a school psychologist. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional therapist about his drinking situation? Because virtually all of his buddies drink about as much as he does, basically, drinking shouldn't be such a big issue. Stated more directly, if almost everybody is drinking, why is this such a major concern?

In a word, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was starting to thwart his ability to function as an accountable young man. As articulated by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your peers drink wine coolers, wine, hard liquor, or beer does not mean that it's the appropriate behavior for you."

Luckily, Miss Pender was extremely well equipped for her scheduled time with Stephen. She showed him reports and research studies she had highlighted that listed diverse drinking statistics and facts that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen quite a bit of data that applied mainly to teens.

After Miss Pender stated the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse statistics and facts, it was obvious that what Miss Pender disclosed to Stephen was a real jolt to him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to articulate the long term and the short term outcomes of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse, but she also took the time to demonstrate what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction statistics and facts that related to everyone in general, and principally to adolescents.

Undeniably, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen instantaneously comprehended why he should not be engaging in excessive and abusive drinking with or without his classmates anymore. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the information she presented and then accepted her reinstatement into school.
