A Young Woman Quits Drinking, Suffers Through Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Comes To A Decision To Get Alcohol Rehab
Kayla is a thirty-two-year-old paralegal who has been drinking in a hazardous manner since her live-in boyfriend and she severed their relationship. In point of fact, for the past six months she has been drinking nearly one-and-a-half bottles of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking several shots throughout the day. In short Kayla has been drinking so hazardously and excessively that it's a wonder that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to stop drinking.
After feeling downcast because she was starting to neglect her health, Kayla at last told herself that enough is enough, that it's time to stop the self pity routine, that it's time to quit the irresponsible and excessive drinking, and time to move on with her life. So the following Saturday morning at 9:00 AM, she made up her mind to stop drinking suddenly and completely without planning or preparation.
When she called her best friend and told her that she had quit drinking and that after a couple of hours she suddenly began having flu-like symptoms, Deborah, her best friend, told Kayla to call her medical doctor and tell him what she was experiencing.
Her doctor told her that she may be experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have a friend or family member take her to the emergency room ASAP. It seems that her family doctor had called ahead and told the emergency room staff to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by two nurses who without hesitation told her to sit down in the wheelchair they had with them.
A healthcare practitioner gave her some meds to reduce her flu-like symptoms and also gave her some medications to help eliminate the alcohol that was still in her bloodstream. After a few hours, Kayla was transferred from the emergency room and transported to the recovery room.
After she was in recovery for approximately an hour, Doctor Jones, an alcohol and drug abuse specialist, came to visit her. He took his time and explained in laymen's language that Kayla had gone through alcohol withdrawal symptoms when she quit drinking because she had become dependent on alcohol.
He then explained that with continuous and heavy drinking, the individual's brain over time gets acclimated to the alcohol in order to process things in a "routine" manner. When the drinker then suddenly quits drinking alcohol, it can be stressed, the brain takes action by creating alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Not only this, but her healthcare professional also explained the various alcoholism symptoms that an alcohol addicted person regularly goes through as the disease gets progressively worse over time.
Fortunately for Kayla, it was confirmed that she was in the earliest stage of alcohol dependency and, as a consequence, she was given a good projection for a full recovery if she will get the alcohol addiction rehab she needs.
Kayla told the medical practitioner that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to get back her health. She also mentioned that she has a very comprehensive hospitalization insurance plan that will almost certainly pay for most of the costs needed for rehab. It was apparent that Kayla was extremely happy with her positive prognosis and felt free from anxiety knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol rehab she needs so that she can start on the path to recovery.
