Cheese Cutting Board - Why Would Anyone Want One?
To many people, buying a cheese cutting board could sound a bit silly. Most people already have a regular cutting board so what do they require one that's specially for cheese?
That is precisely what I thought for years. I need to say that my fiance and I are huge cheese eaters, however we were more than happy using a regular cutting board and not spending the extra money to purchase one which is made for cheese (no matter how cute a Swiss cheese cutting board may appear!). It simply looked like a waste of money.
This continued on until approximately six months ago when I saw a cheese cutting board for sale at the local grocery store. It was cute, Swiss cheese holes cut into it, and was super cheap. It came with a cheese wire cutter as well as soft cheese knives.
I have to note, that the combination of the new knives and the wire cutter really helped us cut cheese more rapidly and efficiently. We also use the board to serve cheese on and we are always getting asked about it! My family totally adore it.
After all this, I'd absolutely buy another one of these if faced with the opportunity. I can't believe that we went so many years without one, believing that our regular board would do it fine.
Among the things that you should be sure to look for in one of these is that it is non-porous. Many woods are porous and therefore have the ability to collect molds(that hang out with cheese) and germs. You can purchase wood boards that have been coated or finished and are therefore non-porous, or you may wish to purchase one which simply looks like wood but is made from plastic or silicone.
