Observations Regarding The Effectiveness Of GoClaws As Compared To Average Tire Chains On Paved Roads

Tire chains are the old traditional means of supplying a car extra traction and control when driving on the snow and ice. Simply, they fit onto the tire and dig into the snow providing grip for the automobile. They are surely a good technique, yet carry several flaws. Firstly, they are not very convenient to fit. More over, they are not meant for the dry road. Which means that if you are driving along a road with snow, and then come across a stretch of road without, technically you should pull over, take the chains off and then drive until such time you reach snow again, and set them back on again. Very impractical.

Fortunately, now there is a new system that solves all these problems called the SnoClaws and GoClaws. It is very easy to work with a simple click and ratchet system that takes not more than two minutes to fit on each wheel.

In addition, the system can also be used on a regular paved road, signifying no need to stop whenever driving from snowy road to snowy road.

The Chattanooga Police Department is so pleased with the SnoClaws and GoClaws that they performed a braking distance test to see how it performs compared to regular tires and tire chains. The test was conducted on a cemented road.

The results are interesting.

At 30mph, the regular braking distance for an auto with typical tires is a little under 30 feet.

With the tire chains on, the braking distance was around 37 feet.

With the SnoClaws on, the braking distance was a little over 30 feet- very comparable with regular tires.

The Chattanooga Police Department results determined that one needs about 7 feet more to bring the vehicle to a stop with tire chains. That seven feet could be the critical distance between avoiding an accident and not avoiding an accident. Which means that, the GoClaws is a very safe and practical solution. Safe to employ on paved roads, and even safer to use on snow and ice covered roads. This implies SnoClaws are the way to go.
