As a wedding and event planner, I am subject to more than my fair share of indignation & rage. You see, til people plan their first wedding day, they never think about how much weddings cost. They want to have inexpensive weddings, yet they also want to have all of the glitz & glamor. The issue is that, even if you buy cost effective bridal dresses, inexpensive wedding cakes, cheap bridesmaid dresses, and all the rest, it will still add up to lots of money. The bottom line is that, if you wish to have that low-priced wedding day, you need to be willing to make sacrifices.
I'm not saying that having low-cost weddings is impossible. If you're willing to have a small wedding ceremony with just a few of your very best friends there, you can do it for quite a rational price. You can make it unique by incorporating touches like top wedding songs. The problem is that, if having low-cost weddings is your intention, you have to plan everything around it. That means that you have to have a small guest list, make reservations at some reasonably priced place, have some cost-effective wedding day dress, rent a tuxedo for the groom, & play top wedding songs on a less costly sound system, generally scrimp and save at every opportunity. Some of my customers have actually taken their own wedding photographs to save on the cost of hiring a wedding photographer!
The bottom line is that the most reasonably priced wedding ceremonies are done in a judge's chambers. Everything else which you do costs extra money. Some families go in to debt for years due to what they spend on holding a grand, elaborate wedding. To me, it looks like a pity. When I meet clients who truly wish to have low-cost weddings, I tell them to have them in the backyard. That way, they can save on wedding reservations - and play your top wedding songs on a boombox, if necessary! If they are truly ambitious, they can even cater it them-selves. If there are going to be more than 30 people there, however, this is usually not a very good idea.
I guess that it all depends on what you expect from your wedding. When I first got married, all I desired was some uncomplicated ceremony to give my love to my wife. If this is all that you wish as well, it is going to be very easy for you to plan some low-cost wedding. If, on the other hand, you want to have an extravagant party with all of your friends & family, you will have to pay for it.
