The Adverse Effects Of Unwarranted Work And Heavy And Abusive Drinking And The Inspiration For Alcohol Therapy

Work was becoming too frenzied for a young police officer named Lonnie. Even though he had only been on the police force for two years, he already had a reputation as an extremely hard worker who rarely said no to working overtime. In actual fact, he was now working ten to fifteen hours of overtime each week and, as a consequence, he felt like he was losing his handle on his personal life. What made the situation more complex, however, was the fact that Lonnie began going out drinking with a bunch of his fellow officers after his shift was over.

Obviously Lonnie was in a rut and going through some adverse signs of alcoholism. Where Lonnie really experienced drinking related problems and alcoholism signs, however, was in his marriage and in his family life. His wife wasn't really a complainer, however she often asked him to stay at home more with her and with the children rather than going out and spending money while drinking with his fellow officers.

When he was really honest with himself, it was clear to Lonnie that his irresponsible drinking was negatively affecting his relationship with his family, work, pocketbook, and his health. So one Friday afternoon Lonnie made up his mind to talk to Richard, a trusted old police officer buddy that he greatly admired.

Lonnie told Richard how irresponsible and hazardous drinking was negatively affecting his pocketbook, relationship with his family, work, and his health. Richard mentioned to Lonnie that he completely understood because just around ten years ago, he too got involved in careless and irresponsible drinking. In fact, Richard told Lonnie that irresponsible and hazardous drinking can cause so many difficulties in an individual's life that just about everything of significance can be ruined. And finally, Richard suggested that Lonnie schedule an appointment with an alcohol abuse specialist at the work-affiliated substance abuse and chemical dependency treatment clinic.

Since his employee's assistance program was affiliated with this rehab center, it was not only convenient but also quite affordable to seek guidance about his careless and irresponsible drinking. And due to the fact that the staff at the alcohol abuse center was supportive, competent, and non-judgmental, Lonnie would be able to get alcohol treatment that made sense to him and something he could follow through on.

After talking to his therapist about how his drinking was adversely affecting his relationship with his family, work, pocketbook, and his health, Lonnie comprehended the fact that he was burning the candle at both ends with his extreme work hours and his irresponsible drinking. Once he realized that he was digging himself into a rut, after detoxification and with the help of his doctor, and after ten weeks in therapy, he was at long last able to quit drinking and stop working overtime.

The result was that Lonnie saw life another way now that he was in alcohol recovery and took the time to learn more relevant alcoholism facts. More precisely, due to his alcohol treatment he not only felt better and more healthy, but he had more quality time to spend with his family, he was more patient when interacting with his wife and his children, and he noticed that he actually had more money now even though he was working far fewer hours each week. Strangely enough, now that he quit drinking, Lonnie and his wife were not only starting to save some money for a new house but he also felt more alert and more energized than anytime since he and his wife got married.
