The Alcohol Related Deaths And Alcohol Related Problems That Are Associated With Irresponsible And Abusive Drinking And What Can Be Done About Alcohol Abuse And Alcohol Dependency In The U.S.
How many individuals face major problems in their lives because they received a "driving under the influence" conviction? On an annual basis, how many alcoholics fail to get the professional alcohol treatment they need? How many junior high, high school, and college students lose their lives every year due to an alcohol overdose? How many individuals die each year from a condition that is totally preventable, such as alcohol poisoning? How many individuals get injured or lose their lives in alcohol related traffic accidents every year? How many people are the victims of alcohol related crime or violence each and every year? How many individuals lose their lives every year because of drinking problems? How many children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome? How many people's lives are cut short due to abusive and excessive drinking?
So what is the reason for asking these questions? Mostly to highlight the destructive and devastating nature of unhealthy and abusive drinking. Indeed, and based on the above questions, it is a wonder why anyone would choose to drink in an excessive and hazardous manner.
Stated a different way, with the host of financial difficulties, relationship issues, health problems, employment dilemmas, and legal proceedings that are associated with chronic alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, why would any person with a common sense mentality want to drink in an abusive and irresponsible manner? In fact when some of the above topics are examined more closely, excessive and unhealthy drinking makes even less sense and becomes more illogical.
Wouldn't you imagine that alcoholics would be able to see some of the alcoholism symptoms that they display? In a similar manner, doesn't it seem feasible to think that more heavy drinkers would be able to see some of the alcoholism signs that they display? What is more, wouldn't you think that individuals who are alcohol dependent would attempt to learn more about their alcoholic symptoms by researching various alcohol-related information, facts and statistics?
After reviewing the alcoholism and alcohol abuse research literature, the point is so important that it needs to be said again: With all of the dangerous and disastrous consequences that are directly or indirectly linked to repetitive and continuous alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, why would any person want to involve himself or herself in abusive and hazardous drinking?
What can be done about the pervasive nature of alcohol abuse and alcoholism in the U.S.? Firstly, society needs to get the message to more people about the unhealthy and dangerous consequences of hazardous and careless drinking. Second, people who are alcohol abusers or alcohol addicts need to look look at themselves frankly and ask why they are not receiving the quality alcohol counseling they need.
Thirdly, our students need more meaningful and more relevant preventative and educational approaches and methods so that more students at all grade levels, including those who are at college, "get the word". And fourth, our students need to learn how to become problem solvers in life instead of getting easily attracted to the "quick fix" and the "instant gratification" of an alcohol or drug abuse "high" or "buzz".
There's lots of room for hope and optimism if people can start drinking in moderation and those who engage in unhealthy and excessive drinking can become motivated to get the alcohol treatment they require. Indeed, why put your loved ones through pain, suffering, and turmoil because of your abusive drinking when you have the power to control your life by drinking responsibly or even refraining from drinking if you cannot control your drinking behavior?
